  • Sunday, November 19th, 2023 at 11am at Big Grove Brewery & Taproom, 1225 S Gilbert St, Iowa City, IA 52240.
  • Register online (strongly preferred), or on-site starting at 10:30am.
  • Bring your bike, a helmet, a bag, a lock, your internal GPS, and around $20-$30 to buy food and/or other necessities from the manifest list (print it off prior to arriving, or use your phone).
  • The event starts at 11am, or when everyone's ready.
  • You can race or enjoy a relaxed, family-friendly experience at your own pace. It's up to you!
  • Be back by 2pm with your items for post-event results, prizes, and other important stuff! Keep your receipts!
  • Don't want to participate in the in-person event? Acquire your items on your own time, and deliver them on the day of the event between 11am and 2pm while the riders are out gathering their items. If you can't make these times, simply drop off your items during CommUnity's regular hours of operations and mention "Cranksgiving". You can also submit financial donations online (money can help out even more than donating items).

FULL INFO Cranksgiving is a food drive on two wheels: part bike ride, part food drive, and part scavenger hunt. It’s been held annually in New York City since 1999. Every year, throughout the country, Cranksgiving events help provide thousands of needy families with a wealth of food during the week of Thanksgiving. This will be Iowa City's 5th Year in joining this national movement! Come join your cycling friends on Sunday, November 19th at Big Grove Brewery in Iowa City. Register online or on-site at 10:30 a.m. on the day of the event. The official start will be 11:00 a.m. All of the items collected during the event will go to the CommUnity Crisis Services and Food Bank and to Table to Table in Iowa City. Bring your bike, a helmet, a bag, a lock, your internal GPS, and around $20-$30 to buy food and/or other necessities. You’ll be provided with a manifest listing various items to buy from specific grocery stores around town, as well as some optional destinations of your choosing. Take the time before the official start to plan and strategize your route, or just wing it if you wish. At 11 a.m., or when everyone's ready, we'll blow the starting whistle and it'll be up to you to reach as many 'checkpoints' as possible and to grab the items off the list. Don't forget your receipt(s) as they will be needed to tally your items at the end! There will be a prize drawing at the end for those who finish. You don't *have* to race, you can go at your own pace as you like - just remember to return to Big Grove by 2:00 p.m. with whatever you were able to acquire. MANIFEST NOTES For each completed manifest, the individual or family/team will earn ONE (1) raffle ticket (that means if each team member has completed the manifest, they will each get ONE (1) raffle ticket). Bonus items are there to reduce your "race" time, and serve as a fun distraction and incentive. AFTER EVENT PROCEEDINGS Afterward, we'll have presentations and the raffle. Then feel free to stay as long as you like and enjoy the atmosphere at Big Grove Brewery! Have questions about the event? Contact the event manager, Nick Maddix, at nicholas.s.maddix@gmail.com. Thanks so much for supporting Cranksgiving in Iowa City! We hope to see you on event day!
