Organizer(s): Denver DSA
Location Name: Cheesman Park (9th St. Entrance)
Address:
Cheesman Park, Denver, Colorado 80206, United States
Description:

Join Denver DSA in our inaugural Cranksgiving ride to help our neighbors stay safe and warm as the weather gets chilly.

The supplies we gather will go to Mutual Aid Monday, the Lakota Way Healing Center, and other partners in the area (details to come!).

To participate in Cranksgiving, you’ll need to use active transportation to gather supplies that Mutual Aid Monday needs. We’ll provide a full supplies list with the suggested locations when the contest starts via social media and print outs at a registration table.

To add to the fun, we’re offering prizes to the folks who bring the most individual items, visit the most locations, and haul things in the most creative way. This is a way to practice mutual aid and explore Denver, not a race! While folks will be on their own traveling between locations, it’s a great excuse to bring your friends along for the ride. You’ll have a great time AND help more people stay warm and fed.

Never heard of Cranksgiving? It’s a national food drive on two wheels that’s been helping to feed people for over two decades. In Denver, we’re partnering with mutual aid groups and using active transportation options (walking, biking, and public transit) to celebrate our community and gather supplies for those who need them.

Details + Rules

Participants should pick up items without spending more than $100 (and spending less is wonderful!). Awards will be given for:

  • Most Individual items collected
  • Most locations visited
  • Most creative hauling method

Registration for the ride will begin at 10:30am on Sunday, November 21 in Cheesman Park (9th St entrance). The contest will begin at 11am. Between 11am and 2pm, participants will visit several spots to find what Mutual Aid Monday needs (or grab supplies that are in good condition from home). Plan to return to Cheesman Park by 2pm to drop off your donations and see who wins a prize!

Land Acknowledgement

Denver DSA honors and acknowledges that the land on which we reside (and will gather winter supplies) is the traditional territory of the Ute, Cheyenne, and Arapaho Peoples. We also recognize the 48 contemporary tribal nations that are historically tied to the lands that make up the state of Colorado. We honor Elders past, present, and future, and those who have stewarded this land throughout generations. We also recognize that government, academic and cultural institutions were founded upon and continue to enact exclusions and erasures of Indigenous Peoples. May this acknowledgement demonstrate a commitment to working to dismantle ongoing legacies of oppression and inequities through mutual aid and the struggle of the working class, as well as recognizing the current and future contributions of Indigenous communities in Denver. (credit to Denver City Councilperson Jamie Torres for the basis of this acknowledgement)
