Bikemore’s 9th Annual Holiday Food Drive Returns November 18 Cranksgiving is a national event that combines bike riding and giving back. The scavenger hunt/food drive sends nearly 100 teams of riders across Baltimore City to collect food items to benefit the Franciscan Center and the Moveable Feast food bank. “it's all about collecting food for people in need and riding bikes with friends, new and old,” said Jed Weeks, Bikemore’s interim executive director. No registration needed, and this event is free to enter but expect to spend at least $20 buying groceries. Bring a pen and a way to carry groceries, Weeks added. Cranksgiving also raises awareness about how almost any person can use their bike as a transportation means for local shopping and traveling to and from jobs, school and medical appointments. The idea to bring Cranksgiving to Baltimore came from a group of volunteers in 2015. Bikemore organized ride logistics and took on the role of promotions. “Since then, hundreds of riders make the annual fundraising ride, gathering tons of food donations for people in need, and assisting Bikemore with it’s largest event and fundraiser for the year,” Weeks said.
